Ingredients

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract optional
  • ½ tsp cinnamon optional
  • a pinch of salt optional

Instructions

  • Add brown sugar and water to a small saucepan.
  • Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
  • Stir until the sugar fully dissolves (about 3–5 minutes).
  • Let the mixture simmer gently for 2–3 minutes.
  • Add optional flavorings if using and stir well.
  • Remove from heat and allow to cool completely.
  • Transfer to a glass jar or bottle and store in the fridge.

Notes

  • Use dark brown sugar for a deeper, more caramel-like flavor
  • Add a cinnamon stick instead of ground cinnamon for a cleaner taste
  • Store in the fridge for up to 2–3 weeks
  • Shake before use if separation occurs
  • For thicker syrup, use a 2:1 sugar-to-water ratio
  • This syrup has around 50 calories per tablespoon.
  • This recipe makes roughly 1 cup of syrup, and since most drinks use 1–2 tablespoons, you’ll get about 8–16 drinks depending on how sweet you like your coffee.
